TERROIR AND VINEYARD

The climate in the region is temperate continental: ideal for growing vines. Summers and autumns are warm, with enough sunlight to ensure optimal ripening of the grapes. The diurnal temperature range allows the vines to rest during the cool nights and to develop an intense aromatic profile while retaining their freshness.

An additional influence is the altitude, which is extremely important for the aromatics and freshness of the wines. The vineyards start at 290 MSL and reach 550 MSL at their highest point. Here are the most suitable terroirs for the varieties Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Own vineyards

The winery owns several vineyard plots with impressive variety of soils in the radius of only fifty kilometers.

The Guardians vineyard (Strážite) is located just outside the village of Borovitza, near the town of Belogradchik. Here the soils are rich in iron oxides, minerals and trace elements, and boast a vivid red color. The topsoil has been formed over millions of years by the weathering of the Belogradchik rocks and gives complexity and structure to the wines. The main grape varieties here are Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Cabernet Franc.

Half of Borovitza winery’s production comes from own vineyards. The rest of the grapes is supplied by long-term partner growers, so that we oversee the whole grape growing process and can trace every bunch to its origin.
